Before beginning this learning experience, let us consider Bloom’s Taxonomy which classifies according to their importance in the learning process the various levels of intellectual behavior.  Since our objective, as instructors, is educational, it is critical that we go beyond the simplest level of the learning process, which Bloom defined as knowledge, through to the highest level, evaluation.

1. Knowledge: label, memorize, name, recognize, order, recall

2.Comprehension: describe, explain, recognize, restate, identify

3. Application: demonstrate, illustrate, interpret, use, solve, use

4. Analysis: compare, contrast, criticize, question, distinguish, differentiate

5. Synthesis: create, design, formulate, develop, construct, propose

6. Evaluation: argue, defend, judge, predict, value, support

No matter what age group you are teaching, can you find evidence of having considered Bloom’s Taxonomy in each lesson that you are planning?  Cite examples that are developmentally appropriate.
